Last pre-holiday post

Calender just got the calender back from Kinkos, whatever fixes I make now will be too late for the presents anyway. The watercolor is a charicature of my young Grandma and Grampa for christmas as well. At the bottom are my best attempts and oil painting so far (bleagh!) Hopefully I'll get it by the end of the classes. Still, Nickelodeon got back to me, so I might be able to stay afterall.

May to August

More cheerleaders pages. Decided to add a bit more texture, upon advice. And yes, I'll be revising the other ones based on suggestions, but I want the rest out of the way first... More advice would be helpful....

Started off this week with a lovely bout of food poisoning. Still, when you overhear things while lying in a chilly hospital wing for threes hours, it tends to put things in perspective very quickly...

There was a very nice Finish girl in one of my painting classes who had to go back to Finland this week (to finish her Finish school, hyuk).
Visually she would make the perfect Luna Lovegood: dirty-blond hair, eccentric fashion sense, and an extremely peculiar (but oddly pretty) figure and facial features.

A couple watercolor figure paintings I kind of liked. Still nothing from oil painting I have the courage to show yet. Hopefully soon...

Here's some pages for a cheerleader pinup calender I'm making for my basketball-playing brothers for Christmas. I went with my typical flat-graphic no outlines designs with the texture on the background due to time constraints: I hope to try something more original for future big projects, honest. Any feedback would be very helpful.

Chinatown

I could come up with excuses for the absence of posts, but I'm sure it was nothing I couldn't have gotten around; a lot of failed attempts at personal projects in oil or watercolor that I had to scrap. Hopefully I'll have something traditional worth put up here before christmas....
Heres a two week old photo of china town. When I can relocate my effing camera I might be able to take some more (aarrrgghhh!).

This is for my dad...

And here's probably the most recent hands to get there hands dirty in cement... man their cute.

This was a poster project for my illustration class. Trying to get watercolor to work on the background. It was to promote alternative energy. I went with Algae; no taking up farmland or forest to grow it, and it grows really fast.

I thought of making a cheerleader pinup calender for my basketball brothers for Christmas. It's taken a while to get anywhere, because I can't make up my mind. I started out my usual graphic thing w/o lines, but decided I should try something I haven't done enough, and went for a more comic-book thing. Some feedback would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps I haven't followed any blog work through for the past couple weeks because I've been doing the same stuff over and over.... I dunno. It's frustrating.... I dunno if these girls are even sexy or just tacky.... it's easier to make it look charming in a broad, cute style.

Anybody know where this is from? One of my favorite games from my squandered adolescences. A fastidious bear and a miscreant bird fight a witch for the freedom of an island of weirdos that would challenge the muppets for diversity. it possessed the thing that draws me to Mario and what most "cool" games today lack; good old fashioned silliness. Really nice color palette two, in retrospect. The little shaman was hysterical. A part of me fears my mother was right in telling me I threw away too much time on video games in the past. But, perhaps

Happy Hallow!

My costume didn't go to waste this halloween, as I feared it would. The West Hollywood Halloween party was lots of fun, despite how sore my feet were at the end and how odious it was trying to find a taxi. I met a Cinderella there (though literally a random slytherin girl). I just wish I had found a glass slipper....

NOW! Before I am pegged a narcissist, I want to point out that all these pictures are of me with women is for the sole purpose that none of the pictures on my camera turned out except when somebody else took a picture with it. And I only thought to have them do this when somebody asked to have my picture taken with them, and I asked their friend taking the picture to use my camera as well. That's why they all are front ons of me, and I know I look a tad pompous in retrospect.... Arggh! So many cool costumes people wore that I took pictures of; a big blurry mess! Hanson was there, too, if that means anything to anyone.

Wanted to practice water painting after class. This stinks, I'm sure, but hopefully the classes will pay off in the end. Wanted to use the Mario characters again...

1st week in L.A,

Moved into this quant little hotel last Friday. $280 a week, which comes to about $1100 a month, but fully furnished with free internet, and close to a bus stop and groceries and all other needs. I just got this camera of Friday, so I'll get some pictures of my school later.

Went to Cartoon Network and dropped off a portfolio. Don't expect much will come of it just yet. But then, that's why I went to LAAFA. I saw some LAAFA brochures in their waiting room, so hopefully it'll look good to have taken these courses in the future.
And past the WB lot.

And to Universal. Lots of nice restaurants, but thought I'd try the Forrest Gump-themed one. Lots of shrimp, but pretty standard Fried food; the sushi place or the Chinese restaurants probably would have been better. Next time, perhaps.

Does anyone born in the last twenty years know where these guys are from? Read the old book a while back, and then the old BBC show. I thought it great character-based humor; you have this hopelessly narcissistic, childish, frivolous and lazy buffoon offsetting the otherwise quiet and uneventful lives of these kind, simple country folk. They are both bemused and infuriated by him, but secretly dote on him like a child and, deep down, envy his reckless ambitions.

I don't care how many people think he's a rip-off of Johny Five, the last promo for Wall-e (the one with the cockroach), made me just fall in love with him. He's kind of like an extension of the Luxo lamp; getting personality out of an appliance. I am curious to see how they animate Eve, who kind of reminds me of an Ipod. She's so bloody simple, I wonder how their going to make her look feminine.

My first week of LA life without a car. The transit is fairly reliable from my place to Balboa (LAAFA's street) but it's still a long walk from the train to the street the school's on itself, and because the buses in this particular area only go once an hour, you're often better off walking. Perhaps the area will be more pleasant once the fires have been put out; one of my poor teachers had to evacuate last week.
