brother's new kitty

Yeah, nothing that creative: but I wanted to try and get at least SOMTHING from the last month of the year before 2013 roled in and it didn't look like my London painting would be done in time :).  GAH it's no fair my youngest brother and his gf always get the cutest pets.  COSMOS too, GAH even the name's untoppable

Thanks  Wreck it Ralph, i'll be doing Ed Wynn impersonations for months now.  A very fun and gorgeous film :).  Stays in a comfort zone and has a LOT of plot gaps (though possibly less were someone who understands programming explained to me how some of rules of the worlds did make legitimate sense), but it was sharp and entertaining.  Kudos Disney :)

I know I did this illustration already, but feeling unsatisfied with the execution of it I thought i'd try it again.  Not sure if the joke's reading yet heh...

Typical downtown experimental street performance.  For some reason I find it rather representative :)

Kobe beef and comi pic

More Kitsune stuff: I never had Kobe Beef, but I understand it's extremely good... or at least so expensive you're not going to let yourself think it's not good after paying so much :).
And extremely talented comic artist sketched this for my and the Vancouver Comi-con: I GOTTA make sure I make it to emerald city next year...    Sadly he ran out of art books so I can't remember his name  >_<

Pneumonia and Glob

SIGH this month post(s) SHOULD have been about how wonderful my new apartment and roommates are, but I must announce that my lack of posts have not been so much due to how busy my film's kept me, but because i've had bloody bloody pneumonia.  GAH not only was this week completely shot lying in bed and the hospital groaning, but I had to cancel my trip on Ottawa to my friends wedding: which would have been my first non-relative wedding.  Mercifully air Canada's giving me the money I spent on the tickets on credit, so as long as I use it before the years out I won't have blown the money :T.  Rather frustrating all the same...
And this was the wedding gift I WOULD have been giving to my far more worldly and interesting and accomplished friend and her hubby, whom I was hoping to finally meet this weekend.  And no, everything in this photo was based on her journal :).  Hope she likes it.

One final moan: she was going to introduce me to lots of single counsins that night, AHHHHHHHHH

Eight tails

 HURRAY, almost missed August.
Haha everyone in North America will probably associate the many-tailed foxes as to do with Pokemon (haha guilty myself not long ago, I'm sure).  I wanted to convey the hierarchy through number of tails, not to mention a distinguishing between "real" foxes and the ones with magic.

Haha and a painting for a friend's column: a bit rushed but there's definitely something helpful about a deadline

Hippo in my Bathtub

Hee hee another cartoon short idea.... maybe I shouldn't post them, but it's probably safe.   Anyone who notices spellings errors in my hiragana, please mentioned

The Girls of elephantmarch theatre

OY over a MONTH and i'm still on one bloody shot.  A long shot, in my defense but still...

Anyway, did manage to do a FEW side paintings.

The long dormant elephant-with-castle-on-it's-back finally gestated a bit.  It's evolving into a story about the arts and entertainment and why it's something important (if it is, haha) and part of the heart of the story is the aspiring artists in the girl's dormitory in the theatre house: representing black sheep from the four conflicting races of tiny fantasy creatures in the land; Faeries, Goblins (or imps, possibly), Trolls and Gnomes.  Hahah and to be fair, the gnome so far is essentially Cheerie Littlebottom for Pratchet... though who knows how much else i'm stealing from him in these early ideas T__T

This was my favorite element of Brave that I feel doesn't spoil much to give away: the standing stones have a mysterious magic, one that's too deliberate to be COMPLETELY called duex eh machina.

BRAVE is probably the most conflicting Pixar film i've seen.  It had LOTS of story problems, YET was something different from them and a step forward in many respects, AND still made me cry where in counted and possessed two very strong female leads that felt neither pandering or cliche.  Hahah only now do I realize I HAVE to do some sketches of Mor'du at some point.

FINALLY starting to test her out. Her rig has a few hiccups still, the belly's a bit fully right now... but at LEAST I'm doing something with her. Any thoughts anyone... not least of which i've managed to make her cute enough to offset the fact that her design is a nod to black charicatures from a somwhat racist time period in animation >_<...

UGH I know, old obsession comes up again.  Tried to see if I could draw something genuinely anime-ish in a good way rather then opting for a cartoony redesign.

This is, in all fairness, a Calvin and Hobbes steal, but I always thought it'd be a great character device that, in spite him being easily the least naive of the cast at this early stage of the story, he's completely innocent of how his tail gives his emotions away. RRR I wasted too much time on this, but whenever my autism starts bringing back old fixations. I always loved these characters in spite of there  archetypes

Boys in Sento

Ugh, man CG animation takes up drawing time: and everything in the CG animations half-done due to technical finishes, so no posts there.

Heh, dunno if the gag comes across.

Going Postal

Going Postal was probably my favorite of the Discworld books. Both Veternari and Gilt were tough to do justice to, despite being in many ways very archetypal: the diplomatic tyrant who's brain seems to be the only part of him that needs sustenance, and a charismatic corporate pirate.

Another card

Heh, birthday cards are always a good excuse to get some drawing in.

Of Mars

Drew this for a friends birthday right after seeing the film. The film to me, was an example of a man refusing to go campy or cyncially modern on somthing that's so dated most of us are somwhat jaded on. Props to him, I say: I got a bit confusing at times but less so then the potter or Lord of the rings in my opinion: and Burrough's no Tolkein and not even a Rowling :).

Heads or Tails

Another short idea... UGH for MONTHS I've been casually sketching the monster and the maiden sacrifice, but I still think they ended up kinda generic. Of course the idea's a bit of a generic brain over brawn/ too many cooks in the kitchen kind of idea. Still, to put it on the back-burner for now

Run Gloria Run

And illustration to go with my very interesting, traveled friend's blog. Hopefully I didn't put a flag anywhere that'd cause an international incident... here's her blog: she's every bit as interesting as the sketch suggests. Little had to be extrapolated, she's practically a cartoon character herself

AMAZING a mostly hand-drawn picture on pencil on here. Though my stupid scanner ain't working so I had to take a photo and uploaded it: so I had to do even more touch-up then usual.

Had three spare short film ideas I decided to dream up for future use, and thought i'd at least do one pitch sketch of them: in this case, one based around how i could never enjoy an old fashioned comedy pie fight without the pained though of good dessert being wasted, combined with the frustration of trying to hold onto artistic pride in crass commercial art.

another rough

I don't know if the grin really shows up here, but it took a LOT of molesting of the rig, heh; much of which I only got away with because he more or less transitions between two expression. Might be trickier with later shots if I don't learn how to hand the pose deformer with the bit more sophistication

more thought bubbles

Hmmm i wonder if I'm giving too much away, but eh, I think the thought bubbles by themselves still leave enough questions that it won't spoil anything. I should probably minimize CG shots more, though

... This one's probably pushing it....

Updated animation rough

Again, only slight adjustments, BUT Enough that I thought it was worth getting feedback again

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Sigh, SOMTHING I can post now at least. RRRR it's not that i haven't been doing other stuff: it's just that between getting the new computer working and STILL trying to get Maya going, this is all I got. Heh, this is probably the bubble I fear might be "going too far"... You gotta imagine the red arrow is pointing at the character in the same suit as the animal.
