Late holiday cards

T+T  been so busy entertaining my friends at my family farms I failed to get these posted.  Ah well, happy holidays nonthless
I hate just doing these direct paintings of photographs, but it's amazing how people like an (attempted) photo realistic painting...

John Finnemore

From the writer and director of "Cabin Pressure", not to mention the adorable voice of Arthur from said radio series comes "John Finnemore's Souvenier Programme".  This was probably one of the lines that caused me the most bodily harm from laughter.   Annnnd I managed to get SOMETHING on here for November: albeit at the ninth hour.  On shot 36 of the film... I doubt i'll make it to shot 40 by new years like i'd hope but fingers crossed :)

Heh, a few more animations, actually they were done a while ago :). Just to fill up my blog more heh. Also to find out if I'm going to far or not >_<  Especially the bottom one could easily be taken out of context :T.   UGH I know i'm taking a huge risk with Jenny's design, but i'm kinda commited now, so I gotta keep my fingers crossed the context of the film will overshadow her lips T_T

Bottomless Martinis

Sorryyyyy.  I feel every commercial artist is entitled to at least one horrendously misogynistic and exploitative playboy-esque funny...  Or really isn't but does it anyway in spite of his so-called political views >_<.  PHEW now that I managed to get ONE bloody peice on here
for September I can get back to the bloody cartoon again... which as I recall is also pretty posterior-centric.

More Korea stuff

One wonders if in Korea some amusement-park manager sits down and thinks "Hmmmm, I don't think these uniforms are embarrassing enough".
Old folk masks:  one wonders if  Elzie Crisler Segar Visited Busan's museums before.  Thaaat's right, i can google Popeye's creator as well as the next guy...

First Pics from Korea

Finally back from the big trip, THIS time with some photos.  Saw LOTS of design-inspiring statues and architecture in my first trip to South Korea.  In spite of the language barrier, I managed to do some bonding with my gf's family :).

Esmerelda from "Marrying Off Mother"

I've always had a soft spot for Gerald Durrell's stories: not only a splendid storyteller but a naturalist who helped invent the modern, superior animal enclosure method for zoos and freed them from concrete steel prisons in favor of little habitats separated by moats, AND preceded the concept of endangered species protection.   Oddly enough a large portion of my favorite stories are nothing to do with conservation, but simply amusing stories from his travels.

I highly recommend the short stories collection "Marrying Off Mother" to anyone wanting a quick read.

This is a passage form "Esmerelda", about how he encounters a much-treasured truffle pig in Perigord.

ThoughtBubble 3000: animation halfdone

According to my calculations, i'm halfway through animating the damn thing... not including the doubtless ENORMOUS amount of revising and fixing i'll have to do on it once I've shown it's entirety to people of importance (I wanna complete it through just to prove commitment).  I've been determined to avoid showing too much more of it in pieces until it's finished.  But I figured it'd be good to show this bit just so it not longer exists in a (no pun intended) bubble.  You gotta imagine electricity coming of Jerry at the twitching moment :)....

Ohdong's Card

A birthday Card for the Sweetest girl in the world... Even though it has many spelling errors.  Hahah her friend's boyfriends were hating me enough because I COOKED for her... now I've just upped the ante...

I Shall Wear Midnight

Been meaning to do a sketch of one of the more memorable lines in Pratchett's "I shall wear midnight".

I know it's a very unoriginal statement but straight lead girls, especially in a (very slightly) more naturalistic style, are HARD to make interesting.  Based on one my idol from college ( now a very talented artist at Disney) and her equally talented sister (now at Pixar), though I moved away from them visually because the characters aren't sisters...  Appropriately, she was the one who introduced me to the Discworld series, which I am constantly turning to for easy listening while working.

Cabin Pressure

Possibly the best bit of Comedy i've listenned to in a while:  I highly recomend Cabin Pressure.  And too all those who like the new Sherlock Holmes series, Benedict Cumberbatch voices the lead :).  I've been meaning to do at least one sketch of the characters, though between boarding a pilot and animating Thought Bubbles, it's hard to get ANY extra illustrations done, which is always hurts your spontaneity

Recylcing some characters for a new project.  Haha maybe I SHOULDN'T keep posting them, under the rather arrogant assumption they might be worth stealing.  Haha working on the new pitch as we speak.  I even found a spot for the old "sleazy business man" character i'd loved so much.  It is SO hard to make an interesting cat design.

London Store

Bust computer made me miss the first month of the year :T.

FINALLY got this stupid painting up.  For some reason this old umbrella shop stuck in my memory above everythign else in London, Englad: and there was a LOT to remember.  UGH I missed Jan, i'll have to keep up more artwork.

Below is a lovely acrylic painting my London-dwelling bro got me from his trip to Kenya: where his gf was interning for UN :).  The canvas stretch probably cost more then the amazing painting itself :)

(Updated: which one's better?)

One of my studio Dogs, in a moment of gand indignity: it's amazing how much the cone shows hoe skinny his is under all those curls

YAY, Louis Gonzale's gesture class taught me life drawing can be FUN again :).  Might post some of the gestures from it when i'm not already risking being two hours late for staying up posting stuff :)
